In June of 1891, the faculty passed a resolution forbidding students to participate in Intercollegiate games and contests

The Cleveland Leader wrote: "It must be a matter of considerable regret to all lovers of college sports in Ohio that the University of Wooster, which for two years held the championships of the State in both football and baseball, has been prevented by secret mandate of the faculty from entering the intercollegiate contests at all this fall."
